Why do I need the Smartbar on my Web Browsers?

Messenger Plus! Community simplifies the process of the most common and important actions today, such as searching and sharing online. It enables users to search using a wide variety of search engines, and share content via the largest social networks with a single click.

Does the Community Smartbar invade my privacy?

No. The Messenger Plus! Community Smartbar does not use the details of your actions or your login data, nor does it give these details to anyone else.

Do I need to pay to use the Messenger Plus! Community Smartbar?

The Messenger Plus! Community Smartbar is 100% free software. Services or products advertised on the toolbar are subject to the terms and conditions of their advertisers.

What is this new button added next to the address line?

This button enables you to minimize or maximize the bar, to set its location at the bottom or top of the screen, and even to hide it.

How does the Messenger Plus! Community Smartbar help me search for content quickly?

  • To search for text quickly, simply mark the text, open the Search box and select the desired search engine
  • To search for text entered manually, type the text in the textbox located on the Smartbar, and again, select the desired search engine
  • To search via a search engine that is not in the main menu, click the plus button and a list of categorized search engines will appear

How does the Messenger Plus! Community Smartbar help me share content quickly?

  • To share text quickly, mark the text, open the Share box and select the desired network
  • To share a link without text, click the icon of the desired network on the Smartbar without marking
  • To share an image or a video, place the pointer over the image/video and a quick-bar will appear in the upper left corner. Then simply click the icon of the desired network

Can I search in more than one search engine simultaneously?

The ability to search multiple sites simultaneously is a unique feature of Messenger Plus! Community Smartbar. To do so, simply mark or type text, click the plus button on the search menu and mark the desired sites on the list that opens. Click "show multiple results" and a window will open displaying the results side by side.

Can I share on more than one social network simultaneously?

Sharing on multiple social networks simultaneously is a simple action that can save valuable time. Click the plus icon in the Share box and select the Multi-Share category. Mark the desired social networks and click Multi-Share below.

How can I add a photo I found online to my Facebook album?

To add a photo to a Facebook album, simply place your pointer over the image and a quickbar will appear in the upper left corner. Click the Facebook icon and the photo will be instantly uploaded and shared with your friends.

Why does my Smartbar disappear in some websites, including Gmail?

The Smartbar is configured not to load in certain websites, due to some compatibility issues – which we are working to solve.

Uninstall Messenger Plus! Community Smartbar

How can I completely uninstall the Messenger Plus! Community Smartbar from my PC?

You may uninstall this software at any time and with no limitations, using the standard uninstall procedures as offered with your computer's operating system

Windows XP
  • Click Start, click Control Panel and then double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  • In the Currently installed programs box, click the "Messenger Plus! Community Smartbar" then click Change or Change/Remove.
Windows Vista (32bit and 64bit) or Windows 7 (32bit and 64bit)
  • Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Programs and Features.
  • In the Currently installed programs box, click the "Messenger Plus! Community Smartbar" then click Change or Change/Remove.
I can’t uninstall the Messenger Plus! Community Smartbar.
  • Visit the Messenger Plus! Community Smartbar download page and reinstall the Smartbar.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Uninstall the Smartbar again.

How do I remove the Messenger Plus! Community Smartbar customized Web Search?

Internet Explorer users
  • Open your browser's Search menu (upper-right corner of your browser) by clicking the arrow
  • Choose Change Search Defaults…
  • Select Messenger Plus! Community Smartbar Search Web Search
  • Click the Remove button, and then click OK
Mozilla Firefox users
  • Open your browser's Search Engine menu (upper-right corner of your browser) by clicking the arrow
  • Choose Manage Search Engines…
  • Select Messenger Plus! Community Smartbar Search Customized Web Search
  • Click the Remove button, and then click OK
Google Chrome users
  • Click the wrench icon next to the browser address bar
  • Select Options
  • Click the Basics tab
  • Click Manage search engines in the "Search" section
  • Select the Messenger Plus! Community Smartbar Search from the list
  • Click the X that appears at the end of the row
  • Select the search engine you want to use as your default search engine
  • Click the Make default button that appears in the row

How do I change to a different homepage?

Internet Explorer users
  • In your browser menu, select Tools > Internet Options.
  • Click the General tab
  • In the Home page section at the top of the dialog, make your selections
Mozilla Firefox users
  • In your browser menu, select Tools > Options
  • Click the Main icon
  • In the Startup box, make your selections
Google Chrome users
  • Open Google Chrome and click on the Wrench icon
  • Select Options menu item
  • Select "Open this page" option in "Home page" section and enter “about:blank” in the text box to set the homepage to blank or enter your desired website URL


I have un-installed Messenger Plus! Community Smartbar but my searches are still submitted to Plus! Network in all or some. What can I do?

Since October 2011, uninstalling the Messenger Plus! Community Smartbar rolls back both the Homepage and Default search settings to their default values. However, if these settings remain after the Smartbar has been removed and searches are still sent to Plus! Network, please follow these instructions:

Firefox/Mozilla Browser
  1. Open Mozilla Firefox browser
  2. In the address bar, type about:config and submit
  3. Find the ‘keyword.URL’ preference (key)
  4. Right-click the preference (key) name
  5. Select Modify
  6. Enter any valid search URL (default value is “http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=utf-8&q=” for Google search)
  7. Restart your browser

Google Chrome Browser
  1. Open Google Chrome browser
  2. Go to the Wrench menu / Options / Basics / Search
  3. Click on “Manage search engines…”
  4. Highlight any of the listed search engines and click on their “Make Default” area to set it as your Chrome default search engine
  5. Restart your browser

Internet Explorer Browser
  1. Open Internet Explorer browser
  2. Go to Tools / Manage Add-ons
  3. Within the control area on the left, click on “Search Providers”
  4. Highlight any of the listed Search Engines on the right hand side
  5. Click “Set as Default” button at the bottom and then “Close”
  6. Restart your browser
